Vega seized in Horsens
The four stranded crew members of the "Vega", which have been without pay, food and drink in Horsens Harbour since two weeks after the ship's owner has gone bankrupt, have received a total of 180,000 crowns now. The ship was seized through a lawyer until the four sailors have the combined 24,000 euros they owe and money to travel home. The "Vega" is owned by a company of the same name, which in turn is owned by the Rederiet Barbara with Boye Kromann as chairman and co-owner. The company is registered in Marstal where Boye Kromann lives and where he is involved in several other companies. He is a board member of the Shipowners' Association of 2010, which in March 2013 expelled the Rederiet Vega due to non-payment of dues.
Bankrupt company leave sailors behind
In Horsens, Denmark, four sailors have served on the ship Vega for over two weeks without pay, food and drink, as the company has gone bankrupt and left the ship. The four sailors are now on their own in Horsens Harbour. A board member of the Shipowners' Association of 2010, Boye Kromann, is involved in the case. "As it is right now, we sense absolutely nothing about our future”, said Gintaras Duobinis, the captain of the ship M/V Vega to DR Nyheder. The bankrupt company Vega is owned by the Company Barbara A/S, where Boye Kromann is chairman. He also serves on the board of many other companies: K/S Mercury, shipping Frem A/S and Amanda A/S. But even so, he is breaking no rules by allowing the ship Vega to be left in Horsens Harbour. Danish Shipowners' Association denounces the company’s behavior and believes this kind of situation has no place in Denmark. However, when carriers are sailing under foreign flags - like Vega does - it is not subject to the Danish rules and therefore the association is left next to powerless.
