Nordane Shipping’s brand new tug Stevns Battler came to the rescue of the Danish freighter SDK Italy, which suffered an engine breakdown in the Atlantic Ocean on a voyage from Maracaibo, Venezuela, to Rotterdam. The Stevns Battler was on her maiden voyage from Canada to Denmark but deviated from its course to assist the SDK Italy. The ship was re-delivered yesterday at Ponta Delgada on the Azores. Fri Sep 17 13:34:39 CEST 2010 zaloasv

Nordane Shipping of Svendborg has taken delivery of its very last Canadian-built tug. The tug, hull no. E97 from Irvine Shipbuilding Inc in Quebec, was named Stevns Battler in a ceremony with Helle Mau Jensen, wife of part-owner Johannes Jensen, Herning, as sponsor. The tug is the sister of the Stevns Breaker, which was delivered earlier this year. Both tugs are fitted with a double Caterpillar plant type 3516B-HD developing 2,866 kW and have a bollard pull of 72 tons. The two B-units satisfy ice class like it three sisters in the Ice-class series. All told, Nordane Shipping and its single-ships companies have taken delivery of nine tugs from two Canadians shipyards since 2002.
