Diesel tanker ran aground on the Ijssel
In the morning of July 3, 2012, at 8.30 a.m. the "Valparaiso" ran aground with a cargo of 1260 tons diesel fuel on the Ijssel at Huissen and drifted perpendicular to the fairway. The tugs "Flumar" and "Multratug 22" were called to pull the ship off which was enroute Emmerich. The river was closed for ship traffic during the salvage work, also forcing the river cruise ship "Bellriva" to interrupt its voyage close to the grounding site. The Pannerdsch Canal and the Rhine remained navigable. The cause of the accident was unclear, possibly the skipper made a navigational mistake when he turned his ship into the Ijssel stream. The tanker was pulled to Arnhem for investigations after its salvage.
