Medevac east of South Padre
The Coast Guard medevaced a man from the "Valle Azzurra" on Oct 6, 2011, approximately five miles east of South Padre Island. Watchstanders at Sector Corpus Christi received a report at approximately 6:22 p.m., from the tanker, that a 40-year old male was receiving CPR from another crewmember and needed immediate medical attention. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew, from Air Station Corpus Christi, and a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft – Law Enforcement boat crew, from Station South Padre Island, were diverted from training missions. The helicopter rescue crew arrived on scene at approximately 7:51 p.m., and successfully hoisted the man off the Valle Azzurra. The man was transported to awaiting emergency medical services at Valley Regional Hospital .
