Drill ship banned from leaving for unpaid salvage bills

Sun Dec 05 17:34:03 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'Valaris DS8' which has been at Hunterston Terminal for nearly a year is currently banned from setting sail due to a court order. A warrant has been issued which was preventing the ship from leaving port over an outstanding invoice from when the ship broke its moorings on Feb 2. The Svitzer towage company said they have not as yet been paid for the assistance they provided to stop the ship crashing into Cumbrae after it was blown out to sea. The legal advisors applied for arrest warrant towards the vessel at the Scottish Court, which has been granted. It prohibits the DS8 from leaving the port of Hunterston until the owners have granted security for Svitzer’s claim or settled the outstanding invoice covering our five days of emergency assistance.

Drill ship threatened to go adrift

Thu Feb 04 10:07:22 CET 2021 Timsen

In the night of Feb 2, 2021, the 'Valaris DS8' which was moored at the Hunstington-Terminal in the Firth of Clyde, was threatened to break from its moorings in stormy weather. Four tugs secured the ship until the weather improved. The RNLI-boat from Girvan and rescue teams of the Coastguard were in attendance until the situation was resolved.
