Destroyer attacked by Houthis
The USS 'Carney' was attacked by several drones and a ballistic missile in the late afternoon of March 4, 2024, in the Red Sea. All drones and the missile were shot down before reaching their target. Subsequently, the US Navy carried out strikes against several targets in the Houthi-controlled part of Yemen. The Houthis confirmed the attack on the destroyer, but stated that two American warships were attacked, and that they will continue the attacks as long as the humanitarian situation in Gaza does not improve.
Destroyer intercepted missile
Houthi militants launched an anti-ship ballistic missile towards the USS 'Carney' on January 26, at approximately 1:30 p.m.LT in the Gulf of Aden southwest of Aden. The destroyer successfully intercepted and shot down the missile, preventing any injuries or damage. This marked the 37th such attack by Houthi rebels since November 2023 targeting both commercial vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. These relentless assaults have impacted over 50 nations, leading to the diversion of more than 2,000 ships.
Destroyer shot down 14 drones from Yemen
The USS 'Carney (DDG 64)' shot down 14 drones launched by the Houthis in the Red Sea in the early morning hours of Dec 16, 2023.
