Another grounding at Deggendorf
On Aug 21, 2012, at 6.15 p.m. the "Ursula-Klaus" ran aground on the Danube at Deggendorf. The bow was hard aground on the river bottom. The ship's bottom was breached in the grounding, and it had water ingress in two compartments. The ship stopped near the Deggendorf Yard, where the fire brigades from Deggendorf and Natternberg provided pump assistance to keep the ship from sinking. The water guard Metten was on scene too. The water which was pumped out was contained in a special containment to avoid a pollution of the river. The shipping authority Regensburg and the water police Deggendorf attended during the night hours. The ship was carrying 600 tons soybean meal. This must be unloaded in Deggendorf now before the ship may proceed to a repair yard. Actually the ship is moored alongside the barge "Obelix" in the port. The water depth in Deggendorf was only 1,95 metres at the time of the grounding, so it had to be checked whether the master would have been allowed to leave the port of Deggendorf. Investigations against him were going on. German report with photo: http://www.pnp.de/region_und_lokal/landkreis_deggendorf/deggendorf/512865_Leck-im-Schiffsboden-Durfte-Frachter-auslaufen.html
