Ship resumed voyage to Bremen
The "Ultramar" which had run into the southern embankment of the Kiel Canal short between Nübbel and Breiholz at canal km 53,5 following a rudder failure, has been taken towards Brunsbüttel by the tugs "NOK 1" and "Flemhude" after the refloating. However, they made little headway, and after an engine failure aboard the "Ultramar" at Oldenbüttel, the "NOK 1" was joined by the tug "Wolf" and berthed at the South Quay in Brunsbüttel on Sep 20 at 8.30 a.m. It left again on Sep 20 at 11.30 p.m. and resumed its voyage to Bremen, ETA Sep 21, 2 p.m. The ship berthed at warehouse 22. Grounding in the Kiel Canal
On Sep 19, 2015, at 8.45 p.m. the "Ultramar" being enroute from Södertalje to Bremen, ran into the southern embankment of the Kiel Canal short behind Nübbel at canal km 53,5 following a rudder failure during the westbound traffic. The canal was closed for ship traffic for the time being with actually eight ships queuing east of the accident site. The tug "Flemhude" which was actually at canal km 74 turned around, and the "NOK 1" was ordered to the accident site from Rendsburg. The ship was refloated in the morning hours of Sep 20 and taken to the South Quay in Brunsbüttel for investigations.
