Fishing vessels stuck inside lock

Mon May 02 09:20:09 CEST 2016 Timsen

A malfunctioning coupling caused the allision of the "Willempje H - UK 33" with the floodgate of the Lorentz lock in Kornwerdrezand on Apr 30, 2016. The ship thus could not stop in time and damaged the gate severely. The lock remained closed for large vessels which must circumnavigate via the Stevin locks at Den Oever since. The ship was forced to remain inside the lock, together with the "Maria - UK 87". The ships were underway to Urk for overhauls. This work will now take place inside the lock. The crew was hoping to sail back home in the evening of May 3, once a new lock gate has been inserted as a replacement.

Fishing vessel damaged flood gate of Lorentz lock

Sun May 01 13:00:30 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Willempje H - UK 33" allided with the flood gate of the Lorentz lock in Kornwerderzand on Apr 30, 2016, during the opening ceremony after length renovations. The gate suffered severe damage so that only ships with a length up to 67 meters may pass the lock until repairs have been carried out. Other ships will have to pass the Stevin lock at Den Oever to get into the IJssel Sea.
