Fishing vessels stuck inside lock
A malfunctioning coupling caused the allision of the "Willempje H - UK 33" with the floodgate of the Lorentz lock in Kornwerdrezand on Apr 30, 2016. The ship thus could not stop in time and damaged the gate severely. The lock remained closed for large vessels which must circumnavigate via the Stevin locks at Den Oever since. The ship was forced to remain inside the lock, together with the "Maria - UK 87". The ships were underway to Urk for overhauls. This work will now take place inside the lock. The crew was hoping to sail back home in the evening of May 3, once a new lock gate has been inserted as a replacement.
