Deckhand seriously injured in Cuxhaven lock
A deckhand of the 'Poolster' was severly injured in the Cuxhaven sea lock in the afternoon of March 10, 2023. After the trawler "Lodairo", a tug from Taucher Otto Wulf and the tanker "Ebba 2" had entered the lock, the trawler also tried to moor, and during the manover one crew member was seriously injured and no longer able to leave the ship on his own. The Cuxhaven fire brigade arrived at the sea lock at around 4.30 p.m. with a turntable ladder. The water level in the lock should be kept stable so that the cutter would not move. The length of the ladder would have been sufficient, but the fence that shields the lock from the Baudirektor-Hahn-St. made it impossible to reach the stern of the trawler with the turntable ladder basket. The fire brigade attached the high-altitude rescue kit to the cage of the turntable ladder and were thus able to remove the patient from the ship. The stretcher was brought to the fishing cutter together with one of the Cuxhaven firefighters, where paramedics and other emergency services were already waiting. The patient was then carefully transported over the fence to the street, from where he was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
