German submarine damaged in allision with rock
On May 15, 2019, the "U 36" touched a rock when departing from the Norwegian naval base Haakonsvern south of Bergen. One of the blades of the X-rudder suffered damage. Divers inspected the damage. Their photos were later analyzed at the home base in Eckernförde and an investigation into the accident was launched by the German Navy. It happened when the submarine backed off its berth and was about to switch to forward speed. The rudder could still be moved, and the boat returned to the port with own power. It was due to sail to Eckernförde in the forthcoming days. "U 36" had participated in manoevers since January.
