Disabled ferry drifted in Kors Fjord

Tue Jan 06 10:28:18 CET 2015 Timsen

In the evening of Jan 5, 2015, the engine of the "Trondheim" stalled while the ship was enroute from Krokeide to Hufthamar in the Kors Fjord. The ferry was about 900 meters from the shore then. The Coast Guard vessel "Ålesund" was dispatched after the MRCC in Southern Norway was notified about the main engine failure at 8.34 p.m. The ferry was struggling in severe weather off Austevoll and drifted towards the shore. The ship was taken in tow, assisted by the lifeboat "KG Jepsen". The convoy got ahead with two knots, and the ship was docked only on Jan 6 at 5.30 a.m., and the 48 passengers could be disembarked after almost 9,5 hours. The ferry "Marstein" was sent to replace the disabled ship. Norwegian report with photos: http://www.bt.no/nyheter/lokalt/Ferge-med-48-passasjerer-fikk-motortrobbel-3274154.html

The "Trondheim" serving the route Krokeide-Hufthamar suffered the rupture of a bolt on the fuel pump on May 12, 2013. The ferry was sidelined at Hufthamar while the bolt was replaced. The repair was completed at 2.15 p.m., and the ferry went back on track.

Trondheim pulled off and surveyed

Tue Aug 07 10:17:23 CEST 2012 Timsen

The "Trondheim" which had been deliberately run aground at 9:30 a.m. off Krokeide to avoid an allision with the ferry pier was refloated by tugs around 1 p.m. The ferry had suffered an engine failure as it approached Krokeide due to a technical problem. Divers from the fire department went down to check the hull for damage. There were 72 passengers and a crew of five on board while the ferry was sailing from Austevoll towards Bergen when the accident happened. Meanwhile a replacement ferry was called.
