Tanker on the Rhine refloated

Tue Aug 12 11:08:41 CEST 2014 Timsen

The "Trienke", 2499 ts (EU-No.: 07001705), which had run aground on the Rhine near Lorchhausen after having suffered an engine failure enroute from Amsterdam to Biersfelden, was refloated on Aug 12. The Rhine was closed for ship traffic between river km 528 and 546,5 for the salvage work. At 7 a.m. the lighter tanker "Atlas" had gone alongside, pumping started at 8.20 a.m. At 9.20 a.m. tugs pulled off the tanker which was towed by the tugs "Pilot" and "Rheinland" to Bingen to be completely unloaded there. Grounding at Lorchhausen

Mon Aug 11 17:57:08 CEST 2014 Timsen

In the early morning of Aug 11, 2014, the "Trienke", 2499 ts (EU-No.: 07001705) ran aground on the Rhine near Lorchhausen after having suffered an engine failure enroute from Amsterdam to Biersfelden. The disabled ship drifted onto a sandbar outside the fairway. The mono-hull-tanker was carrying 2428 tons diesel fuel. Attempts by two tugs to refloat the vessel failed. Two lighter tankers were called which were due to start pumping off the cargo on Aug 12 at 8.30 a.m. During the following salvage attempts the Rhine traffic at the grounding site will have to be interrupted.
