French trawler Trevignon tows Costa Allegra to Desroches Island
The Italian cruise ship Costa Allegra was being towed to safety by a French trawler Tuesday, after a fire left the vessel without power and adrift near the Seychelles, news reports said. The Trevignon reached the stricken cruise liner around 2200 GMT Monday, and was towing it to Desroches Island, 240 kilometres south-west of the Seychelles' main island of Mahe, Seychellois authorities were quoted as saying by Italian news agency Ansa. With the air-conditioning system on the stricken Costa Allegra not working, and given the tropical heat, 'the best place for the passengers is to stay is outside on the upper deck,' said Giorgio Moretti, an official at Costa Crociere SpA, the Genoa-based company that owns the vessel.
