Owner company declared bankrupt

Thu Oct 19 10:13:29 CEST 2023 Timsen

The company Briggen Tre Kronor AB, which is behind the 'Tre Kronor' af Stockholm has been declared bankrupt. Now the ship is to be sold to a new owner through a bankruptcy estate. In Sep 2023 the board of the company submitted an application for bankruptcy to the Stockholm District Court due to unplanned costs for repairs, maintenance and canceled sailings. The pandemic is said to have caused the maintenance of the ship to be delayed at the same time as the company had high costs for training new crew members in combination with the recession, inflation and interest rates. The ship was built, financed with funds from private individuals and companies as well as events surrounding the ship's construction. The project had a support association with thousands of members who paid 200 kroner per year. However, the project has been beset by financial concerns. Already in 2009, the company was saved from bankruptcy for the first time through a reconstruction. The company's board hopes to find a solution allowing sailing operations continue during the 2024 season.
