Truck on ferry caught fire in Sunda Strait

A heavy truck on the cargo deck of the 'Transship 1' caught fire in the afternoon of Oct 20, 2023, when the ship with 200 passengers on board was about to berth in Bakauheni, Southeast Sumatra, en route from Merak port. The truck was loaded with consumer goods, including electric motorbikes and foam mattresses.The ferry, with thick smoke billowing from inside, berthed with theramp already lowered. The passengers left the ferry without injures. The fire was extinguished by joint efforts of the crew and firefighting teams. The ship later shifted to a nearby anchorage. The fire was believed to have been caused by a short circuit.
