Medevac off Freeport
The US Coast Guard medevaced a crewmember from the 'Tosna Star' approximately 35 miles offshore of Freeport, Texas, on July 30, 2020. The Coast Guard Houston-Galveston received a report from the captain of the tanker of a 36-year-old man who was experiencing shortness of breath. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac. A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to the scene. The Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted and transferred the crewmember to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. The crewmember was reported to be in stable condition. The tanker dropped anchor off Houston on July 31.
Tanker attacked off Port-au-Prince
On May 17, 2020, at 8 p.m. the 'Tosna Star' was attacked by 10-12 pirates off Port-au-Prince. They were armed with machetes and other weapons and tackled the tanker by bow and stern. After threatening the crew of 21 they robbed their cell phones and the ship's ropes. The attack lasted 30 minutes. The ship, operated by the Marítima Maruba company, had left Buenos Aires on December 23 2019 and should have returned to Argentine in March, but the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent quarantine prevented the ship from returning.
