Grounding in the night
The fish carrier "Straumvik" ran aground on Oct 2, 2012, at 3 a.m. on rocks in Finnsnesrenna after having passed the fairway light on the wrong side. The lifeboat "Ulabrand" proceeded to the grounding site after having been notified at 03.10 a.m. The boat was on scene at 5:20 a.m. and sent down a diver to inspect the hull. It turned out that the hull has suffered a gash of 60-70 centimeters in one of the ballast tanks, but there was no risk of oil leaks. The "Straumvik" was loaded with 380 tons of salmon and had a crew of four on board. It was heading southbound when it ran aground while it was high tide. The Norwegian Coast Guard ship "Heimdal" released the liefeboat in the morning. A refloating attempt was to be undertaken with the next high tide at 3.05 p.m. using the Coastguard tug "Normann Jarl".
