Robbers boarded tanker

Thu Jun 11 13:32:16 CEST 2020 Timsen

Four robbers came alongside the 'Torm Lotte' in a wooden boat, armed with knives, while the ship was anchored approximately 30 nautical miles northeast of Pulau Bintan in position 001 36 42N, 104 52 48E, on May 3, 2020, at 7.50 p.m. Two of the robbers boarded the tanker using a hook attached with a rope. The duty able seaman on routine rounds encountered the robbers and immediately informed the bridge. The alarm was raised, a PA announcement was made and the crew mustered. The robbers took the able seaman's UHF radio by force and escaped. A search was made throughout the tanker. Padlocks to four storerooms were found broken but nothing was reported stolen.

Danish tanker Torm Lotte rescues 300 refugees

Sun Jul 20 12:47:35 CEST 2014 arnekiel

A tanker from the Danish shipping company Torm helped on Friday afternoon (July 18) the Italian and Maltese authorities to rescue about 300 refugees who had gotten into trouble in their boat in the Mediterranean. This was stated by the company Saturday in a press release. The ship Torm Lotte flying the Danish flag was around noon Friday contacted by the Italian coastguard, who wanted help in rescuing a ship that had refugees on board. The Danish ship after four hours of sailing had visual contact with the boat, and helped the approximately 300 people in the safety of the ship. The refugees were then brought to Malta, where authorities took care of the immediate needs. According to the European border agency Frontex, the number of poor people trying to cross illegally from North Africa to Italy in particular, almost doubled compared to the same period last year to just under 60,000.
