Bulkcarrier settled on bottom following water ingress

Sat Jun 10 12:50:11 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Tong Shun" which was berthed at warehouse 21/22 in Santos port since June 6, 2017, in order to load 30.850 tons of soy, in addition to 38.796 tons already having been loaded, suffered water ingress in its ballast tanks in the morning of June 7. The bulkcarrier got stuck on the bottom at its berth in a water depth of 13,2 meters because of the extra draft. A hull breach was believed to be the cause of the water intrusion, but the souce has not yet been found. Technicians and divers were trying to identify if there was a hole in the hull or a defect in the pumping system in the cargo holds. The divers chekd the hull and the flooded tanks on June 9. The vessel was surrounded by booms as a precaution.
