Medevac off St. John's

Wed Apr 12 11:43:32 CEST 2017 Timsen

450 miles southeast off St. John's a crew member of the "Tokyo Express" was medevaced late on Apr 8, 2017. The Royal Canadian Air Force deplyoed a Cormorant helicopter which was on site around midnight, flying from Gander to St. John's, where they fuelled up and got rid of any non-essential gear in order to take as much aviation fuel as possible, before heading to tthe "Terra Nova", a Floating Production Storage and Offloading Vessel (FPSO) which was ready to receive the helicopter. Once the Cormorant reached the "Tokyo Express", a Hercules aircraft hovered above and dropped flares to light up the night sky, providing Neri with a clear view of the ship below. Two SAR techs were dropped off in a basket. Once on board, they evaluated the patient and hoisted him to the Cormorant. He then taken to hospital in St. John's for treatment of an unreleased medical issue. Tokyo Express assists at rescue of crew of sinking ship off Seattle

Sat Oct 18 16:32:27 CEST 2014 arnekiel

A containership crew and the Coast Guard both sent boats to help two people abandoning a sinking ship north of Dungeness Spit on Friday morning. The Coast Guard rescued the man and woman aboard the 67-foot Lady A. They were not injured. Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound in Seattle received the distress call from the Lady A around 7:31 a.m. Friday reporting that the people on board were abandoning ship into their life raft. Sector Puget Sound dispatched a response boat and a helicopter to the situation and alerted other vessels in the area of the distress situation. The crew of the Tokyo Express, a 664-foot container vessel, launched a small boat crew to assist. That boat arrived on scene about the same time as a Coast Guard Response Boat at 8:09 a.m. The rescuers found both people still aboard the Lady A.
