Barge in danger of sinking in Haren-Emmeln
In the morning of Sep 28, 2014, the "The Wave" was in danger of sinking in the Euro Port of Haren-Emmeln. The ship had on board a cargo of 1000 tons wheat when it started foundering due to water ingress in the basin which had a depth of 3,5 meters. A witness found that no one was aboard and alerted the fire rescue from Haren which started dewatering the vessel, supported by the forces from Meppen and Rütenbrock. Oill booms were laid out. Divers tried to locate the leakage. They found no leak, but remarked a strong suction at the propeller. Another barge took the disabled ship alongside and pulled it to the quay of the company Rothkötter where the wheat was unloaded until the evening and the vessel stabilized in the run of the day. The owners of the vessel were informed in their home in Klazienaveen. After six hours the rescue forces left the scene, while a pump kept on working. A company from Oberhausen was called to stop the water ingress.
