Oil spill during pumping operation
During the pumping of heavy fuel from the "Texas" onto the tank m/v "Genuine Venus" at a jetty of Vopak on the New Maas river in the old port of Vlaardingen in the afternoon of May 11, 2016, about 600 liters oil were spilt. The crew of the tanker, the recipient of the oil, seemed to have made an error in the calculation of the amount needed which was significantly less than the reported order which caused the overflow. Several ships and jetties were smeared with the very sticky substance which spread to the Zevenmansport. The affected ships could then not leave or move on without being cleaned. The "P5" of the Seaport police was dispatched to the site. The tanker's owner had to pay a safety fine of 4,000 Euros.
