Freighter disabled in storm off Propriano

Tue Jan 16 18:33:07 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Burhan Dizman 3", loaded with steel, went adrift about three kilometers off Propriano (Corse-du-Sud) on Jan 16, 2018. The ship suffered propulsion damage at 7.30 a.m. due to propulsion trouble and was emergency anchored at noon. She was assisted by the tug "Abeille Flandre", which had been pre-positioned off Corsica and reached the freighter at 9.30 a.m. in very difficult weather condotions with winds reaching 100 km/h and 3.5 meters wave height. Given the weather situation, important means were simultaneously engaged, including two helicopters from the French Navy base Hyères, a Puma SAR helicopter from the Air Force in Solenzara and the civil security Dragon helicopter. An evaluation and intervention team from the French Navy in Toulon and a safety inspector from Ajaccioa and the port pilot of Bonifacio were hoisted aboard the cargo ship. It proceeded with own power to the port of Ajaccio where it arrived at 7 p.m. for inspections. The "Burhan Dizman 3" had left Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône) in the morning of Jan 15, heading for Gemlik. Ship had no oil liability certificate

Wed Dec 10 13:11:29 CET 2014 Timsen

On Dec 9, 2014, officers of the Water Police Wismar controlled the "Burhan Dizman" in the port of Wismar. They found that the so-called Oil Liability Certificate has not been on board as prescribed. This document is an insurance that covers any pollution damage that may be caused by the ship's bunker oil. After consultation with the competent Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) in Hamburg a security in the amount of 600 Euro was fixed for the infringement. A Wismar shipbroker signed a guarantee for the 34-year-old Turkish captain, so that the ship was allowed to leave the port of Wismar in the evening and headed towards the Kiel Canal.
