Allision in Villa San Giovanni

Fri Jan 12 10:32:40 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Telepass' suffered an engine problem and allided with the artificial rocks bordering one of the piers of the Villa San Giovanni landing place, after the departure from the port en route to Messina on Jan 10, 2024, at 08.40 am. After the incident the vessel remained stalled for about 20 minutes just outside the port of Villa San Giovanni, before carrying out a manoeuvre that brought it back to its berth. The passengers remained on board until 09.55 a.m. They were then transferred onto another vessel to take them to Messina at 10.35 a.m. The 'Telepass' was sidelined for the appropriate checks and finally sailed on Jan 12 at 10 a.m. UTC, en route to Messina.

Ferry slammed into quay in Messina

Fri Mar 24 11:24:06 CET 2017 Timsen

In the morning of March 23, 2017, at 9.40 a.m. the "Telepass" which runs between Villa San Giovanni and Messina, suffered a blackout while mooring in Messina. Attempts to drop anchor and restart the engine failed and the ship bumped into the dock, causing extensive damage to the quay structure and also an optical fiber cable for telecommunications. There were moments of tension and panic on board when the crew alerted their passengers shouting "all lying on the ground." Luckily no one was injured as a result of the allision, but when dropping off passengers, a crew member stumbled and suffered a fracture and was taken to the Papardo hospital for treatment. An ambulance, the State Police and the staff of the port attended after the accident. The area was evacuated and work to secure the dock started. The "Telepass" has been replaced by "Archimedes".
