Stern ramp collapsed

Tue Dec 18 10:59:48 CET 2018 Timsen

The stern ramp of the "Aremiti Ferry II" collapsed and fell down in the morning of Dec 17, 2018, when the ship was about to leave the wharf of Vaiare in Moorea. A traction cable broke when the ramp was being raised. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the loading process was already completed. The passengers were carried on by the "Aremiti 5" which started to rotate between Tahiti and Moorea for the time being as a replacement ferry. The "Aremiti Ferry II" left port after the ramp was secured and returned to Papeete for repairs at 12.40 a.m. on Dec 18. On Mar 7, 2014, the "Aremiti Ferry 2" at noon allided with the dock in Papeete and was damaged. The ferry had to be taken out of its service to Moorea. The "Aremiti 5" took over the schedule while repairs awere carried out. On Mar 8 the ferry was docked at the Shipyard South Pacific. The hull hwas seriously damaged above the waterline. Obviously the ferry had docked too fast. Express repairs were completed in the afternoon of Mar 9, and the ferry resumed its service. Photo: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1995247
