Wednesday, 08 September 2010 The Philippine Coast Guard provided medical evacuation assistance to a ship captain of a cargo ship transiting Philippine waters after complaining of severe chest pain with numbness on his arm, believed to have suffered a mild stroke. Sea Power Shipping Enterprise alerted the PCG on the condition of the ship’s captain and requested for possible evacuation at the vicinity of breakwaters in South Harbor in Manila Bay. PCG search and rescue vessel (DF-312) from Coast Guard National Capital Region arrived on scene at around 2235H and transported the patient to PCG headquarters in Manila where he was transferred to awaiting medical personnel. Captain Evangelos Pikolus, a Greek national, complained of his condition. The ship’s agent said that per latest medical report, the captain is still under observation but vital signs are all stable at the hospital.
