In the morning of Feb 15, 2010, the "Tavrya" drifted to clear water and was freed. The vessel was not damaged after it had drifted for almost 5 days in the Bering sea since it got stuck in the Litke Strait on Feb 10. The crew of 15 had enough food and water for 20 days.

On Feb 10 the "Tavria" got stuck in the ice of the Litke Strait, which is separating Karaginskiy island from the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Bering sea.There was no imminent danger to the ship or its crew of 15, and depending on the expected ice-field drift, it was expected that the reefer would drift to the open sea within 2-4 days.
