New ferry plagued by overweight

Mon Feb 23 13:25:18 CET 2015 Timsen

Since its delivery on May 28, 2012 by South Korean shipyard Daewoo to the Tunisian Navigation Company, the "Tanit" is being plagued with many defects such as vibration, noise, consumption, an overweight 819 tonnes, more than 4% of the ship's weight bringing with it the risk of structural deficiencies in fairly short deadlines" and frequent and unexplained breaks of windows and some cracking. The ferry is currently wintering in Marseille. 2,5 years after delivery, the ship is not yet finally approved. The NTC, which still has not paid deposits, is looking to obtain a Daewoo responsibility to reduce the bill. The Bureau Veritas did not question the safety of the ship.”. In its report Bureau Veritas approved without comment or observation the additional weight and recommended a new tilt test. A new weighing will be done over two days starting onf Feb 24 in Marseille in the presence of experts and representatives of the yard.

Medevac from Tunesian ferry

Fri Aug 16 09:44:37 CEST 2013 Timsen

In the afternoon of Aug 15, 2013, the "Tanit" alerted the Maritime Medical Consultation Center of Toulouse (CCMM) after one of his passengers, a 63 year old man, possibly had cardiovascular problems. The Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue of the Mediterranean (MED CROSS), immediately dispatched a Dolphin helicopter from the Naval Air Base Hyeres, with a doctor of the Sainte-Musse Toulon hospital on board. The man was then transferred to Sainte-Musse Toulon hospital.
