Medevac off Bermuda
The "Tofton" en route from Savannah, Georgia to Finland was forced to divert to Bermuda on Jan 26, 2012, to medevac a crew member who had fallen ill. The vessel reached the sea buoy two miles east of Town Cut, in St. George’s at 1 p.m.. The chief engineer was transported on a pilot rescue boat to Ordnance Island at 2.45 p.m. and was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. Meantime, a replacement chief engineer was due to fly in on a British Airways flight from London in the evening. He was to be transported to the "Tofton" once he lands on the island. The "Tofton" left Murray’s Anchorage at 5 p.m. to await the new chief engineer’s arrival offshore. There was no word on the condition of the sick crewman at press time.
