Ferry grounded off Rømø
The "Sylt Express" ran aground with 126 passengers on board in the foremidday of May 10, 2019, 10 minutes after its departure from Havneby at 10.30 p.m., off Rømø island, being bound to List upon Sylt. The ferry got stuck in pos. 55° 4.63 N 008° 34.02' E. The tide was dropping at the time of the accident, so the ship was expected to remain stuck for some hours. Technical problems were thought to have caused the incident so that the ship veered off course and grounded in the Wadden Sea. The passengers were provided food and drinks. In the afternoon, already some hours before the high tide at 6 p.m., the "Sylt Express" refloated and returned to Rømø at 4.10 p.m. She was to remain sidelined there for the rest of the day for investigations and a hull survey by divers.
