Crew member with suspected COVID 19 infection medevaced

Sun May 03 21:44:31 CEST 2020 Timsen

On May 2, 2020, a Filipino crew member of the 'Swift Ace' which was eight kilometers from the Port of Veracruz, had to be evacuated by the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), since the man showed symptoms of Covid-19. The naval command received an emergency call from the port captaincy, in which it was reported that the ship was requesting support to carry out the medical evacuation of the man who had fever and difficulties to breathe. Semar coordinated with the International Health and the Captaincy of the Regional Port of Veracruz to carry out theevacuation on the high seas, and the departure of a patrol boat was immediately ordered with specialized equipment on board to carry out the medical evacuation of people suspected of being infected with Covid-19. Upon arrival at the site, Naval Health personnel provided medical attention to the 31-year-old man. He was handed over to the International Health in port. His state of health was reported to be stable, and he was transferred to a local hospital to receive specialized medical attention.
