Three ships grounded on Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal

Three vessels have run aground in the Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal, the 'Rasul Gamzatov', 'Port Olya-3', and 'Svyatogor'. On Dec 18, 2024 the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the Astrakhan Region. received a message from the MRCC that the 'Rasul Gamzatov' had run aground at kilometre 170 of the Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal, the 'Port Olya-3 had run aground at kilometre 176 and the 'Svyatogor' had run aground at kilometre 177.3. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the crews did not need medical assistance, and there wasa supply of food. The passage of was is blocked. The ship owner was working to resolve the issue with tug assistance.

Grounding on the Don

The 'Svyatogor' ran aground in vicinity 47 35 11 N, 41 11 12 E on the River Don near Konstantinovskaya on Sep 18. 2022, at 9.40 p.m. The vessel was carrying a cargo of wheat. The tug 'Priboy' was sent to assist. Ship traffic on the Don was not blocked. In the early morning of Sep 19, the vessel refloated independently and continued its passage to Rostov-on-Don.

Accidential death on board regarded as suspicious

The "Svyatogor" requested medical assistance for a 37-year old Ukrainian crew member in the morning of Oct 4, 2016, east of Rhodes. The patient was medevaced by helicopter and transported to Rhodes Hospital, where he was declared dead. As the circumstances of the reported accident raised suspicions, the vessel was directed to Rhodesand anchored off the port for investigations. It was en route from Mersin Turkey to Rostov-on-Don.
