Cargo ship abandoned after grounding in Black Sea
On Dec 25, 2018, the "Surov" ran aground southeast of the Zheleznyy Rog Cape in the the Krasnodar Territory, close to the village Volna at the southwestern coast of the Taman Peninsula. After the anchor chain broke in a storm, the vessel drifted onto the shore in waves of 4-5 meters height. At 2 a.m. the captain asked for assistance. At 3.20 a.m. the vessel got stuck 10 meeters from the beach, and at 4.20 a.m. it suffered water ingress and as a consequene a blackout. All 11 crew members - nine Russians and two Azerbaijanis - were evacuated by a tug, which had been sent from the port of Novorossiysk. No oil spill nor environmental damage were reported. The ship was sailing in ballast and had on board 82 tons diesel fuel and 0,9 tons oil. The SAR tug "Spasatel Demidov" (IMO: 9681443) moored tow miles from the grounding site in order to attempt to refloat the cargo ship. On Jan 12, 2019, the ship was still stuck. Collision on Azov-Don Sea Canal
On Sep 19, 2017, at 6.20 a.m. the "Veles" was in collision with the tanker "Volgoneft 210" on the Azov-Don Sea Canal in the area of the buoys 20-21 in restricted visibility. Both vessels had pilots on board. The "Veles" was loaded with 3003 tons of wheat. She suffered a damaged bulwark on six meters length and bloating of the main deck. Both vessels were ordered to proceed to Rostov-on-Don for inspections and investigations.
