Most containers lightered
While the bow of the "Hongyuan 02" was still submerged on Dec 23, the vast majority of the containers has been transferred, the hull remained basically stable. After six days of continuous work, a total of 320 containers was taken off, reducing the weight of nearly 10,000 tons. Holes in the hull were patched, and water was pumped out of the cargo holds. 8-ton-anchors were laid out in order to stabilize the ship 300 meters in each direction. In one or two days the stabilisation work was to be completed to avoid that the ship rolls over under the impact of wind and waves. Chinese report with photos: http://news.hsdhw.com/416361
