Supplier saved crew of sinking schooner
On July 3, 2013, the "Rem Supporter" saved the crew of five ofthe sailing schooner "Penelope" which took in water and had started to sink, just west of Florø. Two of the crew were from Møre og Romsdal, two from Sogn/Fjordane. Theship had started to burn 80 nautical miles south of Floro in the afternoon. Police was notifiedat 1.08 p.m. A Sea King helicopter from the 330 Squadron in Floro was scrambled and supplied the crew with bilge pumps to pump out the water, but eventually the smoke development was so great that the crew decided to abandon ship afte ralso the two pumps failed. They were taken aboard a rescue boat from the "Rem Supporter", which had been four miles away and come to their aid. Once on board the supply ship, the five were hoisted aboard the rescue helicopter and taken to Florø. The "Penelope" had been on a trip from Floro to Shetland.
