Engine failure off Igoumenitsa
In the evening of Dec 27, 2019, the Igoumenitsa Port Authority was informed about a power failure aboard the 'Super Fast XI' east of Ithaca. Patrol boats were immediately alerted to render assistance. as well as private boats. The ferry, enroute from Patras to Igoumenitsa, was carrying 173 passengers, 77 crew members and 90 vehicles. The ship safely reached the port of Igoumenitsa in the morning of Dec 28. Following an inspection by the Local Ship Inspection Unit, a failure was found in one of the ship's generators. The Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa, which was conducting the preliminary investigation, detained the ferry until a Class Certificate was presented and the ship was allowed to preoceed to Ancona where it arrived at 7 p.m.
Medevac in Patras
The Port Authority of Patras was informed on Oct 10, 2019, at noon by the captain of the 'Superfast XI' which was underway to the port of Patras, coming from the ports of Ancona and Igoumenitsa, that a 50-year-old passenger was found unconscious in his cabin and needed immediate hospitalization. Upon arriving at the port of Patras, the patient was taken by ambulance to the Patras General Hospital, having partially recovered his senses. A preliminary investigation was carried out by the Central Port Authority of Patras.
Passenger found dead in cabin
On Sep 15, 2019, a 59 year old passenger was found lifeless in his cabin aboard the “Superfast XI” in the port of Igoumenittsa. First aid was provided on board the ship, without response, and the man taken by an ambulance to the Igoumenitsa Emergency Room, where his death was reported. The relevant Port Authority conducted a preliminary investigation, and a necropsy-necrotomy will be ordered at the Laboratory of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at the University of Ioannina.
