Crew taken off

Tue Aug 28 10:01:00 CEST 2018 Timsen

Due to strong wind and waves, the 12 Indonesian crew members on board the "Jin Hua" were taken off as their ship deteriorated. NRCC received a report on Aug 28 at 9:45 a.m. from the Maritime and Port Bureau's South Taiwan Maritime Affairs Center that the crew had requested assistance to evacuate the ship due to the strong wind and heavy seas. The 12 Indonesians were airlifted to safety by helicopter at 6:34 p.m. by the Coast Guard Administration. They were awaiting assistance from their shipping agency. The ship's stern was now partially submerged, there were holes on the hull and in the engine room. Some of the cabins have been flooded. On Aug 26 the rudder of the container ship was parted and some tanks of the vessel were breached. The oil removal operation will be conducted shortly. The vessel was carrying 35 tonnes of diesel oil and 90 tonnes of fuel oil. The ship ran aground south of Taiwan, near Kaohsiung port in position 22 47.13 3 N, 120 13.442 W, due to bad weather, on Aug 23 at 10.15 a.m. while a tropical depression was developed at the south of Taiwan.
