Cruise ship unable to dock in Port Everglades due to hurricane Milton

Thu Oct 10 10:20:57 CEST 2024 Timsen

The 'Sun Princess' had to turn back before docking at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in anticipation of its grand arrival at its winter homeport. As the Category 5 hurricane Milton approached Florida’s west coast, the US Coast Guard elevated Port Everglades to “Port Condition YANKEE” on Oct 7. This indicated that gale-force winds were expected within the next 24 hours, and the ship could not reach its destination. All docked vessels were required to vacate the port, and incoming ships were barred from entry. Passengers aboard the ship fell ill and were evacuated by helicopter. They were scheduled to disembark at Port Everglades. It was unknown where the passengers were taken after their helicopter pickup. The ship had set off from Barcelona on a one-way 25-day trip to Fort Lauderdale. The hurricane left the 'Sun Princess' stranded five miles off the coast of Florida Reports with video: https://www.suggest.com/cruise-passengers-airlifted-from-ship-off-florida-coast-ahead-hurricane-milton/2834142/ https://www.wideopencountry.com/cruise-ship-passengers-airlifted-from-ship-as-hurricane-milton-barrels-down-on-florida/

Passengers airlifted on cruise ship stranded off Florida

Wed Oct 09 11:28:17 CEST 2024 Timsen

On Oct 8, sick passengers were airlifted to safety from the 'Sun Princess', which was stranded off the coast of Florida as the Hurricane Milton was heading directly towards it. The shiphad left Southampton on Sep 23 and was due to dock in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on the morning of Oct 9. However, with the hurricane set to batter the US state, Port Everglades, where the ship was due to stop, was closed. The ship was now cruising five miles off the coast of Florida. The storm was expected to hit Florida on the night of Oct 9, bringing winds exceeding 130 mph. Report with video: https://uk.style.yahoo.com/florida-cruise-ship-evacuation-hurricane-163704859.html

Medevac off Cartagena

Tue Sep 17 09:11:48 CEST 2024 Timsen

On Sep 16 a woman needed to be medevaced from the 'Sun Princess' due to medical problems, while the ship was sailing four nautical miles from Cartagena. The CCS Cartagena of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR boat 'Salvamar Draco', which embarked the patient and transported her to the port of Cartagena, where an ambulance was waiting for further transport to hospital.
