Deadly accident in Sète
During unloading operations of the 'Sumela Seawways' in the port of Sète on April 4, 2021, at 3 p.m. a 43-year-old Turkish sailor was run over aboard the ship by a towmaster. He was seriously injured, but initially rescued by a team of firefighters from Sète. He received first care and was transferred to the Saint-Clair hospital. An SMUR helicopter later took the victim to the Montpellier University Hospital where he died in the night. The circumstances of the accident remained to be determined.
Rebranded U.N. Ro-Ro to introduce ‘Seaways’ names
U.N. Ro-Ro will be rebranded DFDS, a process that will take several years. The first ship to display the name and the livery of the new owners is the lengthened UN KARADENIZ. DFDS has also announced that all twelve ships in the U.N. Ro-Ro fleet will be renamed after Turkish UNESCO world heritage sites. In line with the rest of the DFDS fleet, the name will be followed by the Seaways suffix.
