Stranded fishing vessel towed to safety
The "Success III" with five crew members on board was towed 40 miles to safety in a six-hour mission by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat on Nov 2, 2016. The skipper of the North Shields-based fishing vessel had asked the UK Coastguard for assistance shortly before 11 a.m. when his 21 m, 174 tonne vessel became stranded 40 miles North East of the Tyne after suffering mechanical failure. The Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was requested to go to the assistance of the fishermen, and launched at 10:58 a.m., steaming at best speed to meet the "Success III" 70 minutes later. The tow rope was quickly attached by the volunteer lifeboat crew and the lifeboat set off on the long, slow tow back to North Shields Fish Quay where the boats arrived without incident at 6:35 p.m. Report with photo: http://www.tynemouth-lifeboat.org/2016/11/02/2712/40-mile-6-hour-tow-to-rescue-fishing-vessel/
