Medevac in rough seas

Tue Jul 26 09:48:50 CEST 2011 Timsen

On July 23 at 1 p.m., the Dutch Coastguard was alarmed for a medevac from the "Stuyvesant". The female cook got her finger pinched in a door. The doctor of the Radio Medical Service KNRM recommended to take the woman with the lifeboat "Jeanine Parqui" to hospital. 10 minutes later the rescuers left Berghaven and fought their way towards the vessel through a strong north-wester, around 5 Beaufort, which created a turbulent sea. From Noorderhaven Light the distance was 18 miles to the west, and the "Stuyvesant", en route to Mexico, was sailing towards shore. The ships rendezvoused at 2 p.m. in position 52 ° 00.44 and 45.75 East 003 °. The 45-year-old American patient was waiting in a basket to be transferred. The evacuation was quick and disciplined. The lifeboat moored at the dock at 2.45 p.m., and the patient was taken by taxi to the Harbour Hospital in Rotterdam.
