Disabled trawler towed to Eyemouth
The Leith registered trawler Bright Ray (MMSI-Nr.: 235004076) The Eyemouth all-weather lifeboat was launched on Mar 2, 2016, at 7 p.m. after the "Bright Ray" requested assistance with the towing of another fishing vessel. The Leith registered trawler was towing fellow trawler, the "Stronsay Lad", which had suffered gearbox failure, back to port in deteriorating weather. The Eyemouth lifeboat was quickly on scene and passed a stern tow to the "Stronsay Lad" in order to act as a brake, whilst the "Bright Ray" continued towing the vessel towards Eyemouth harbour. The wind and swell were steadily increasing. Just as all three boats were lined up to enter the harbour, the towline between the "Bright Ray" and "Stronsay Lad" parted, however, the skipper of the "Bright Ray" skillfully manoeuvered his vessel in limited sea room and successfully made good the tow again. Working together the "Stronsay Lad" was then safely towed into harbour and made safe alongside.Eyemouth lifeboat was then stood down and returned to station, an hour after the initial call.
