Four ships broke from their moorings or dragged anchor in Novorossiysk between 9.15 p.m. and 9.45 p.m. on July 25, 2018, after the wind suddenly changed its direction from north to southeast and increased its speed up to 24-25 meters/sec. The cargo m/v "Serenada" broke her stern moorings and allided with berth no.39. The sheerleg "Barbaros 3" broke the fore and aft moorings and though dropping both anchors, the crane drifted against the floating dock No. 3 of the Novorossiysk Ship Repair Yard. The bulkcarrier "Lion" broke her stern moorings and allided with berth no.5, and the"Storm" dragged her anchor, drifted outside the anchorage limits and hit the bottom by stern. Crew on detained ship has not been paid since three months
The crew onboard the "Southern Star" which is detained at Chatham have not been paid in three months and were being supplied with food by a seafarers’ charity. The provisions on the vessel were running low. The charity has been supplying essential provisions such as bread and milk to the eight Russian seafarers remaining onboard the ship. Five crew, also Russian nationals, have already been repatriated. The vessel was taken into Chatham on Apr 3, 2016, after developing engine trouble and was subsequently detained by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) after it was found to be unseaworthy and in a state of disrepair. The UK Admiralty Court arrested the vessel on charges of non-payment of bunker fees. The registered owner is Evry Global Inc, care of the ship’s commercial manager Coralot Consulting Ltd., which is registered in Larnaca.
