Oil spill after tanker broke lose in Abenraa

Sun Jan 05 18:34:24 CET 2020 Timsen

In a severe storm that hit Aabenraa in the morning of Jan 4, 2020, the 'Stone 1' which was unloading of oil at the Ensted plant, broke lose from its moorings in heavy gusts at 9.30 a.m. About 30 cubic meters of vacuum oil leaked into the water before the pumps could be stopped and triggered a major environmental action involving the Danish Navy's patrol vessel 'Diana', and the Marine Home Guard's local vessel, 'MHV 910 - Ringen'. The ships deployed floating oil barriers in the fjord off the Ensted Power Station where the tanker had been docked. The oil contaminated approx. 300 meters of the beach at Varnæs southeast of the Ensted Power Station, posing a risk to bird and wildlife in the affected area. The oil pollution was contained during the afternoon, but work on removing the oil from the beach continued on Jan 5 with 50 men. The 'Stone 1' was detained and dropped anchor between Als and Jutland in pos. 55° 5.77' N 009° 37.06' E on Jan 4 at 11.25 a.m. where it remained stationary on Jan 6. Tanker encountered technical trouble in Barents Sea

Sun Jul 08 12:17:35 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Stone 1", during berthing at Kolguev Island, could not be positioned properly due to poor manoeuvrability of the tug "Atriya", and berthing had to be aborted on July 6, 2018. No spill, no injury reported. The vessel dropped anchor and was now waiting for the developments and weather improvement. e The tug "Atriya", while establishing a towing connection, got its propulsion fouled after the towing wire snapped and was entangled in the tug’s propeller and rudder.
