One pirate boat exploded in fire fight
One of two high-speed motorboats that attacked the 'Stolt Apal' in Aden Bay on May 17, exploded after being shot by the armed guards who were on board the tanker. This was stated by security company Ambrey. It is not known what happened to the 2-3 pirates who were on board the boat when it exploded. The attack developed into a firefight between the pirates and the armed guards aboard the product tanker. As one pirate ship exploded, the other fled. There were no injuries on board the 'Stolt Apal'.
Tanker in fire fight in Aden Bay
On May 17, 2020, the 'Stolt Apal' was attacked and shot upon by pirates in Aden Bay Northeast of Bosaso, Puntland. The attack evolved into a firefight between the pirates and armed guards on board. The tanker was located 75 miles south of Yemen when two motorboats approached it at high speed. Armed guards aboard the ship fired several warning shots at the pirates who answered the fire. After a brief firefight, the pirates retreated, failing to penetrate the vessel. No one aboard the 'Stolt' Apal was injured in the attack. It was not known if any of the six attacking pirates were hit. After the attack, the tanker continued the voyage from El Jubayul towards the Suez Canal.
