Tanker nearly slammed into canal ferry
The British tank m/v "CPO England" (IMO: 9353149) suffered a rudder failure while transiting the Kiel Canal enroute from Flushing for loading a cargo of oil in Ust-Luga on Oct 26, 2016, around 11 a.m. The ship threatened to slam into the "Stolpmünde" at the ferry pt. Landwehr which was hastily evacuated by its master. A 77-year old man fell during the disembarkation and was injured. He had to be taken to hospital. The "CPO England" ran into the embankment some metres aside of the ferry, damaging both the "Landwehr" and the berth by the swell. The ferry remained operating in spite of the slight damage. The tanker continued to Kiel and was anchored on Holtenau Roads for investigations. on Oct 27 at 2.45 p.m. it resumed sailing with ETA at Ust-Luga Oct 29, 7 p.m.
