Swiss company seeks compensation for tanker arrest
On Nov 5, 2019, it was reported that the Swiss company 'AGTG SA' will seek compensation of one million US Dollars in damages from Ukraine for arresting the 'Mriya' , which was carrying 2,500 tonnes of diesel fuel to Romania. The 'Mriya' was arrested in Kherson on Aug 23for allegedly, illegally entering a port in Crimea, a year after Crimea re-joined the Russia Federation. In August 2019, the tanker transferred the fuel to another vessel during a ship-to-ship transfer in Kherson port waters. The Ukrainian authorities states that, the fuel was supplied to the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. The Swiss firm has had to pay one percent (US$15,262) of the cargo's cost for every day of delay. So far, the shipment is 70 days late, which amounts to more than US$1 million. Due to the arrest of the tanker, the company was not able to fulfil the obligations of the contract. AGTG SA reportedly, will seek damages from those responsible in Ukraine. On Nov 5, a Ukrainian court in Kherson was to look into whether the ship was impounded legally.
Sarato City damaged at the bow
The "Ekaterina" in the collision with the tanker "Saratov City" on Nov 8, 2011, at 04.15 a.m. on Nov 8, 2011, in position 46 44.4N 037 27.8E suffered a dent in engine room area and a hole above the waterline. The accident happend in heavy traffic conditions while the ships were trying to pass each other. The "Saratov City" suffered a dent in the bow section on starboard side and a damaged anchor. Both vessels were directed to Eisk port and arrived there at 2.15 p.m the same day. After the "Ekaterina" was berthed, offloading work commenced as Eisk in fact, was a destination port. In the morning Nov 8 tanker Saratov allided with general cargo vessel Ekaterina in Azov sea near Belosarayskaya Sound, both vessel suffered slight damages and were directed to nearest port Eisk for inspection. Tanker was with cargo of oil products, cargo vessel was with cargo of fertilizers, no leaks and injures reported. Details of allision unknown. Maritime Bulletin http://www.odin.tc
