Cancer passenger disembarked in Punta Arenas

Fri Mar 20 11:03:13 CET 2020 Timsen

On March 19, 2020, a passenger with cancer disembarked from the 'Stella Australis' in Punta Arenas at the Arturo Prat Terminal along with his wife. Due to the health condition he had to return home as soon as possible. The operation was supervised by the Port Authority, complying with a protocol authorized by the health authority that included a direct transfer van to the airport. Subsequently, the ship sailed as instructed by the maritime authority, in order to meet its quarantine status. The 'Stella Australis' was in preventive quarantine after President Sebastián Piñera suspended the arrival of passenger ships. The passengers, along with those of the 'Ventus Australis', will be able to disembark on March 21, despite the fact that according to the naval authority there were no reports of cases of contagion on board. Both ships had the authorization to disembark on March 15, but residents of Punta Arenas blocked the departure of passengers from the Prat dock for fear of the Covid-19.
