Barge stuck on the Pinnau
In the evening of Aug 14, 2014, at 8 p.m. the "Steinau" ran aground on the Pinnau near Neuendeich. Sailing upstream, the vessel got stuck on a shallow off the port of Klosterdeich in a narrow curve on the left shore. Attempts to pull the ship off by pulling a wire connected to a piling ashore with a winch on board failed. The flood barrier was closed when the tide receded to prevent the ship from breaking in two. On Aug 15 at 7.30 p.m. the tug "Windrose" which had been called from Stade was able to refloat the ship which had loaded 880 Tonnen tons pulp bound to the paper mill Stora Enso in Uetersen. The shipping authority permitted the ship to proceed to Uetersen oncce it was refloated to unload the cargo. The ship docked at 8.15 p.m. and will have to be surveyed before being allowed to sail on.
